Finishing Family Spaces In Fairport, NY

Challenge

In 2019 TBF of WNY was approached by a family from Fairport, NY about refinishing their basement. Their wants were outgrowing their space the way that it was as they wanted a home gym area for the parents, a play area for the kids, and separate laundry and storage areas that wouldn't be in the way of the rest of their activities. They wanted walls that they could paint to create a finished look that they preferred as they love color.

When our Design Specialist Paul went to their house for the initial appointment he found that there was a small leak in a pipe and water issues in the basement too.  And the basement had been finished years ago, with the walls in fairly rough shape. This was looking like a bigger job that initially expected.

Solution

The family worked together with our Design Specialist and our Production Team to make their basement dreams come true. Once the demolition was done, waterproofing work started to take care of the water issues that had been happening. Two sump pumps were installed, and the basement has been dry since then. The pipe was mended and some ducts were moved to accommodate the design the way that the family wanted it, then refinishing could begin.

Our team used one of our EverLast wall systems that is paintable, and they used a product on them that let it just need a primer and paint to be finished. The family chose to paint it on their own after the finishing was done. They chose to have both a drop ceiling installed, and to have the ceiling painted depending on the part of the basement that it was. With the walls up, they had their separate spaces that they wanted.
