A Comfortable Basement Built to Last!
Challenge
The Millers, a family of four, wanted to transform their unfinished basement into a functional and inviting space. The basement, previously used for storage, had concrete floors, exposed pipes, and little natural light. Their goals were to create a recreation area, home office, and guest room, while improving storage, lighting, and ventilation. The design divided the space into three zones, using Elite Plank Flooring for durability and aesthetic appeal. The flooring, along with neutral colors and modern lighting gave the basement a bright, warm feel. The space was also rewired to support new lighting and outlets. To address moisture concerns, the floor and walling system was carefully designed to allow for easy cleanup in case of water issues. The Elite Plank Flooring could be removed from specific areas if needed, while the panel walling system also made it simple to fix problems in the exact spot they occurred. The low ceiling was addressed with a painted black ceiling, creating a modern, industrial look, and still keeping as much height as possible. The finished basement now offers a multi-purpose area, including a cozy recreation room, private home office, and guest room, all with improved storage, ventilation, and easy-to-maintain features.
