Working With The Homeowners In Buffalo, NY
Challenge
In 2017, a pair of new homeowners contacted Total Basement Finishing for help with their basement, but they decided to hold on any work for a while until they settled in. We kept in touch, and when they were ready to look at designs in 2019 we were there to speak with them. When our Design Specialist met with the couple he found that they didn't want to do a full refinishing right now, they just wanted to start with an egress window to keep their basement space safe. We were happy to help them with this, get the necessary permits, and architectural drawings needed for this work in this area, and to do the installation for them.
Three months after the installation there was a heavy rainfall in the area, and the homeowners found that water was coming into their basement. They believed that it was coming in through the egress window, and contacted Total Basement Finishing of WNY about the problem.
Solution
Our Project Manager, and owner met with the homeowners that week about the problem. They inspected the window, confirmed that it was sealed from the exterior, and had an installation crew check it too to make sure that nothing was missed. Our owner checked and confired that the drain for the egress window well was connected properly, that it wasn't leaking, and that the drain to the left of the window well was capped so that no water was coming in from our system. Our owner spoke with the homeowners and confirmed that if there were more water issues that it shouldn't be coming from our system, but that there might be a problem with the drain tile in that area of their basement because of where the water was coming in right next to the wall, and how long it spread without going far into the basement.
Quality matters to us, so going out to check our work was very important to us at Total Basement Finishing of WNY.
